What happened

Whoever is behind the cyberattack claims to have stolen the following amount of Disney’s corporate data: 1.1 terabytesA group calling itself “NullBulge” reportedly claimed responsibility for the attack.

It is not known exactly when the attack occurred. Disney declined to comment on the incident, saying only that it was “under investigation.” It is also unclear which unreleased projects were targeted for theft.

Even so, hackers have already started publishing the stolen data, bypassing the ransom issue.

NullBulge describes itself as a “hacktivist group that protects artists’ rights and provides fair compensation for their work.” The group also says that “AI work is damaging to the creative industries and should be banned.”

Whether NullBulge actually has anything to do with hacktivism or is a random criminal hiding noble intentions is anyone’s guess, but criticism of the AI ​​is growing among the creative community and its supporters.

The fact is that companies use huge amounts of data to train AI, literally feeding them terabytes of content found on the Internet. Under these conditions, it is difficult to control the ownership of texts, images or sounds. That is, any algorithm always has unlicensed content in its knowledge set. Although AI never publishes a full copy of what it has learned, activists believe that even learning from other people’s work without the author’s permission should be prohibited.
