Apple launched its high-end VR Vision Pro headset in February of this year. As you probably know, it can be integrated with a Mac for an immersive experience with a large virtual screen. Now, there are reports that Samsung is preparing to launch a “Vision Pro version for Android” that is expected to compete with Apple’s $3,500 offering.
Shortly after the launch of the Vision Pro, it was revealed that Samsung and a number of Chinese manufacturers were also working on the form factor to capture market share.
According to a recent leak, Samsung’s upcoming headset is codenamed Moohan. The developer version will be available in October, while the consumer version will be available in March 2025. Samsung will reportedly ship the headset to developers this October and will officially announce the product at its Galaxy S25 series launch conference in 2025. The headset is expected to go on sale in March.
Samsung’s alternative to the Apple Vision Pro will reportedly feature two 1.03-inch OLED displays with a resolution of 2500×2500. That means a pixel density of 3500PPI. The displays will have a 90Hz refresh rate.
For context, the Apple Vision Pro offers 1.41-inch displays with a resolution of 3660 x 3200 and a pixel density of 3386 PPI. So Apple’s Vision Pro could still beat the immersion offered by Samsung. However, the overall user experience will also depend on the operating system.
According to a previous report, the headset will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2+ Gen2 processor and will also feature 12 built-in cameras. The device is expected to be priced around 10,000 yuan, which is equivalent to $1,377.
