DeepL introduces a new generation of its language model that would achieve better translations compared to major competitors such as GPT-4, Google and Microsoft.

At the end of May, DeepL raised another $300 million from investors and today the Google Translate competitor is launching a new generation of its language model. This technology is designed to improve business translations and is based on advanced LLM technology. According to DeepL, this would make translations more accurate and reduce the risk of errors compared to major competitors. The new language model is now available to DeepL Pro users.

Mature LLM technology

DeepL’s new model was developed using a special LLM (Large Language Model) technology. This technique ensures more accurate translations and reduces the risk of hallucinations and misinformation.

In addition, the model is trained using proprietary data that DeepL has collected over the past seven years. This data includes translation-specific data, although human supervision was also used. Thousands of language experts were involved in training the model to ensure the quality of the translations.

“Our new LLM technology proves that we can offer our customers even better translation quality,” said Stefan Mesken from DeepL’s research team. “Companies that regularly translate large volumes of documents will find that our new model enables them to work more efficiently and productively.”

Blind quality test

According to DeepL, the new language model should deliver better translations than major competitors such as GPT-4, Google and Microsoft. The translation company is trying to substantiate this strong claim with a blind test.

Blind tests show that DeepL translations are more often preferred by language experts than those from Google Translate, ChatGPT-4 or Microsoft. CEO and founder Jarek Kutylowski emphasizes that this is just the beginning of what DeepL’s LLM technology can offer. The new technology ensures that companies around the world can better overcome language barriers and communicate more efficiently.

DeepL’s new language model is now available to DeepL Pro users for translations into and from English, Japanese, German and Simplified Chinese. Companies that use DeepL Pro benefit from maximum data security and comply with GDPR guidelines.
