China has published the first lunar geological map of the world at 1:2,500,000 scale.

According to Ukrinform, Xinhua reports.

Chinese scientists from the Institute of Geochemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and other research institutes and universities have created a map based on data from the Chang’e project, as well as other lunar research results and data from international organizations.

It marks 12,341 meteorite craters, 81 impact basins, 17 rock types, and 14 structure types.

It was noted that the map will provide important background information for lunar exploration, drilling planning and landing site selection.

The map is available in Chinese and English, as well as in paper and electronic versions.

As Ukrinform reports, in 2020 scientists from the US Geological Survey (USGS) together with NASA created the first interactive geological service to the Moon.
