The image from the Mars Express shows many different colors on the surface around the 30-kilometer crater, suggesting that this region of the Red Planet is made up of different materials.
To the south of the crater, the surface has a warm red color that changes to a darker brown-gray closer to the crater. There are many flat-topped hills in this region that are formed when the ground is slowly washed away by water, wind or ice.
Inside the crater is a dark dune field on a lighter colored surface. A closer look at the photo reveals that the crater is filled with more tip and cone-shaped peaks. This indicates that many different materials have accumulated inside the crater.
To the north of the crater, the surface is lighter and smoother.
As Ukrinform reports, the European space probe Solar Orbiter has photographed the Sun from a record distance, and the images show thousands of “fires”.
