The latest pre-build of Windows 11 from the dev channel has some notable features and changes to the user interface. The Tab Explorer is finally available for testing (for some insiders) and more widgets and information are displayed in the taskbar. It turned out to be another new widget hidden from prying eyes.

According to Rafael Rivera (@WithinRafael on Twitter), Microsoft is experimenting with another search bar in Windows 11. Build 25136 allows you to place the search button in the lower left corner of the screen next to the weather widget.

This feature is not available by default so you have to enable it manually using vivetool. Here’s how to do this at your own risk:

  • Download Vivetool from its repository on Github and extract the files to any folder you want.
  • Run command prompt on behalf of administrator and navigate to vivetool folder using CD command. For example, C: Vivetool CD.
  • Type vivetool addconfig 37010913 2 and press Enter.
  • Restart the computer to apply the changes.

A new taskbar search tool has been added to the controversial desktop search bar that Microsoft recently announced in Dev for Windows Insiders. Windows 11 doesn’t seem to have enough search space, so Microsoft keeps adding new ones.

It’s worth noting that the inclusion of experimental features hidden in previous versions of Windows 11 can harm your installation. Also, Microsoft’s experiments do not mean that the company plans to provide them to all users of a stable channel. At some point, after gathering enough feedback, Microsoft might change its mind and remove a feature from the operating system entirely. Source
