In the recently published book “Nuclear War: A Scenario”, researchers draw an apocalyptic picture of what awaits the world in the event of a nuclear conflict, based on the opinions of leading scientists. Already in the first 72 hours, the number of victims could reach 5 billion.
Immediately after the first strike, thousands of cities will be reduced to ashes, the world will be plunged into darkness due to power outages. Radioactive contamination of the air will cause mass deaths, and fires that will cover forests, cities and agricultural areas will cause poisoning from toxic substances.
The situation will get worse in the future. Radioactive fallout will destroy vegetation and water will become unusable. In a few weeks, a nuclear winter will begin, when soot will block sunlight, causing temperatures to plummet and leading to global famine.
Those who survive this hell will have to fight for limited resources, and years from now, solar radiation penetrating the thinning ozone layer will become deadly. Humanity will have to take shelter underground, struggling with new epidemics. Even after a thousand years, people will continue to live primitively, and traces of modern civilization will disappear without a trace. Source
