In Latin America, children watch TV and prefer to play and watch TV series on the Internet

According to the analysis of the organization AsKids, which conducts market research in the segment of children and adolescents, children under 8 use YouTube in the children’s version, from 8 to 13 years.

Other interests include video games, streaming TV series and movies, and YouTube. In addition, the study yielded other interesting data:

– Social networks have become the main way of communication with children and adults, as 87% of them use them.

– One of the main sources of digital entertainment for minors is videos on YouTube, 76% of respondents use the platform.

– As for the use of television, national and cable broadcasting are no longer used as much as compared to watching TV series and movies on different streaming platforms, 67% of minors use the TV at home to watch paid content.

– 65% of children and adults use video games on their console or mobile phone as leisure time.

– In adolescence, ie from 13 to 18 years, most of the Internet is used social networks and streaming platforms to watch TV series.

Despite the above data and that communication and information technologies mean entertaining people, some activities that are not related to screens are still common among minors such as dancing, sports or drawing.

Another fact is that with the growth of infants, the consumption of digital content increases, which reaches its peak in adolescence, where 70% of free time is spent using the Internet for activities on social networks, streaming or other offers.

When it comes to TV series and movies, the most commonly used streaming platform for minors in Latin America is Netflix. Disney + has increased its consumption like other emerging services.

In terms of video games, according to a study by asKids, between the ages of 3 and 5, they are used by 43% of the population, 6 to 12 years, 71%, and 13 to 18 years, by 70% of people. In addition, male children are more interested in video games than women.

As for the devices with which they consume their content, the mobile phone is the most commonly used device for 13 to 17 year olds, 85% of adults have it. The little ones see their content on a smart TV.

Mexico is one of the countries in the region where more children are consuming content online. According to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), 50 percent of people between the ages of 6 and 11 in Mexico use the Internet or a computer, compared with 80 percent of adults between the ages of 12 and 17. Up to 94%.

Another interesting case in Colombia is where, according to a study entitled “Childhood, Adolescence, and Audiovisual Media in Colombia: Appropriation, Use, and Attitudes,” led by the Colombian Communications Regulatory Commission, cell phones are the most commonly used by consumers. And 14- to 17-year-olds spend more time online for an average of 102 minutes a day. Finally, Colombian children talk, play video games, surf the Internet, talk on cell phones, take photos, and interact with other children on social media.
