My fellow Americans,

We have made great strides as a nation over the past three and a half years.

Today the United States has economy the most powerful in the world. We made historic investments to rebuild our country, lower prescription drug costs for seniors, and expand affordable health care to record numbers of Americans. We provided desperately needed relief to 1 million veterans exposed to toxic substances. Passed the first gun safety law in 30 years. Appointed the first African-American woman to the Supreme Court. And passed the most important climate legislation in world history. The United States has never been in a better position to lead than it is today.

I know none of this could have been done without you, the American people. Together, we have overcome a once-in-a-century pandemic and the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. We have protected and preserved our democracy. And we have revitalized and strengthened our alliances around the world.

It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your president. And while it was my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is best for me to a game And for the sake of the country, I must resign and concentrate solely on fulfilling my duties as president for the remainder of my term.

Later this week I will tell the nation more about my decision.

Now, let me express my deepest gratitude to all of those who worked so hard to get me re-elected. I want to thank Vice President Kamala Harris for being an outstanding partner in all of this. And let me express my sincere gratitude to the American people for the faith and trust they have placed in me.

Today I believe what I have always believed: that there is nothing that USA I can’t do it when we do it together. We just have to remember that we are the United States of America.
