There is something, yes, that surprises me a lot, and that is a major change in the platform’s advertising criteria, because just a month before they said otherwise, they said they weren’t considering offering ad-supported plans, although it’s true they were cautious and added “for now” to complement the “never say never.” “. And they did well, as the bills introduced at the end of the same quarter forced the leading platform for streaming movies and series to put an expiration date on the previous statement.
Be that as it may, and that was to be expected, Netflix’s standard plan with ads has become an absolute success, as we told you a few months ago. Although, if we analyze it a little deeper, it may also be related to the elimination of the basic plan, which until the beginning of this year was the cheapest option to contract the service without advertising. With this change, the cheapest options are the standard tariff with advertising (5.49 euros/month) and the standard tariff without advertising (12.99 euros/month). A difference that undoubtedly makes the option with ads more attractive.
Well, as we read in the ComicBook, it seems that they decided to go stronger to that extent Netflix would announce the cancellation of the standard ad-free plan in the results presentation, so until the hypothetical arrival of other plans, the only option would be the standard tariff with advertisements and the premium tariff, which in our country has a monthly fee of 17.99 euros. So if this change is confirmed in our market, the only way to enjoy ad-free content will cost more than three times the price of an ad-supported plan.
The elimination of first the basic plan and now the ad-free standard plan prompts us to think about a few things. The first, of course, it seems advertising must be quite profitableotherwise these plans would be maintained. Of course, it’s also likely that many of the subscribers to the listed plans switched to an ad-supported plan at the time, reducing the validity of those who were removed from the list. And another big doubt is of course related to the plans for the future, i.e. whether new plans will arrive, like the recently announced free with advertising.
