After the CrowdStrike tumult on Friday, recovery plans are gradually emerging. Microsoft is releasing its own recovery tool for the affected Windows PCs.

Friday was a pitch-black day for CrowdStrike. People around the world were faced with Microsoft’s dreaded Blue Screen of Death (BSOD), causing significant operational issues. A faulty update from CrowdStrike was to blame. Up to 8.5 million Windows devices were affected by the faulty CrowdStrike update.

Meanwhile, CrowdStrike has published a recovery portal where victims of the Falcon Sensor update can find the necessary tips and procedures. In addition, CrowdStrike worked with Microsoft on a new recovery tool that runs over USB and requires less manual work from users.

Microsoft is releasing a recovery tool to help IT administrators repair Windows machines affected by the faulty CrowdStrike update. The security company has already released an update to fix the software, but not all machines can receive this solution automatically. An alternative option is to boot your PC into Safe Mode and delete a specific file.

Those who do not want to boot into Safe Mode or have difficulty doing so can resolve the CrowdStrike issue using Microsoft’s new recovery tool. The recovery process is less manual and is done via USB. Booting into the PE environment via USB grants access to the affected computer’s hard drive and automatically deletes the corrupted CrowdStrike file.

In addition, Microsoft also offers recovery plans for Windows virtual machines running on Azure and for Windows 10 and Windows 11 devices.
