It’s been a while since we started talking about the Google Pixel 9 Pro XL, the “new” model that joins the Pixel family of smartphones, which as we told you earlier, aims to have at least five different models (with their respective variants) in this generation. This represents a truly remarkable leap, as the last previous generations, including the current one, consisted of three models.

Why did I put the word new in quotes at the beginning of the previous paragraph? Well, because actually the Google Pixel 9 Pro XL aims to be the successor to the Pixel 8 Pro, so The real novelty of this generation will be the Pixel 9 Prowhich will share specs with the 9 Pro XL but will be the same size as the Pixel 9. This will give Google the experience of its flagship in two sizes, which is a big win for me, because although I personally prefer the 6.7 inches to the 6.2, I understand that there are users who prefer the smaller size, but at the same time don’t want to give up everything that the Pro version has to offer.

To make it even more clear, let’s now recall the different models that, according to the leaks, will make up the Pixel 9 family, which, as you already know, will be introduced in just three weeks, on August 13:

• Pixel 9: codename “Tokay”. Replaces Pixel 8.Notification/trigger? in August 2024.
• Pixel 9 Pro: code name “Caiman”. A new proposal, with 9 Pro specs but Pixel 9 size. Announcement/Launch? in August from 2024.
• Pixel 9 Pro XL: codename “Komodo”. Replaces Pixel 8 Pro. Announcement/Launch? in August from 2024.
• Pixel 9 Pro Fold: codenamed “Comet”. Replaces Pixel Fold. Announcement/Launch? in August from 2024.
• Pixel 9a: no known code name. Replaces Pixel 8a. Run in spring 2025?

If last week we ended with Google showing us the Pixel 9 Pro and the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, now it’s the turn of the model that is between them, although this time we’re not talking about an official publication, but rather a model that “surprisingly appeared on XDA forums, more specifically in this message in which We can see three photos of the Google Pixel 9 Pro XL that look like a pre-production modelthat is, units that are produced to perform final checks, before verifying that everything is in order, and then bringing the production lines to full speed.
