The European Space Agency (ESA) has announced the start of work on the Argonaut program. Five probes are expected to land on the surface of the moon in the next decade.
The first landing module, the “Argonaut”, will go to the Earth’s natural satellite in 2031 with the new European rocket Ariane 6, which will fly into space for the first time in early July 2024.
ESA experts plan for the Argonaut automatic modules to carry up to 2,100 kilograms of cargo and scientific equipment to any point on the Moon.
According to the scheme shown by ESA, the lunar lander will consist of three components: the main part responsible for the landing, as well as the payload (which could include a rover or scientific equipment) and a cargo platform.
