Tourists in the area captured the phenomenon on their cameras. The images show a tall column of dirt and debris which forced the evacuation of visitors who were on the pier.

The explosion occurred near the Sapphire Pool. pool with thermal water Biscuit Basin is located just over two miles from Wyoming’s famous Old Faithful geyser.

Yellowstone National Park authorities were forced closed parking and sidewalks from Biscuit Basin temporarily for the safety of visitors.

No injuries were reported.

“Hydrothermal explosions are violent and dramatic events that cause a rapid release of boiling water, steam, dirt and rock fragments.“According to the U.S. Geological Survey, which added that several incidents of this type have occurred in the park in the past.

The U.S. Geological Survey said in a statement that Tuesday’s explosion did not indicate that a volcanic eruption was imminent.

“Monitoring data shows no change in the Yellowstone region. Today’s explosion does not reflect activity within the volcanic systemwhich remains at a normal level of activity,” the US Geological Survey explained.

The agency added that its geologists were investigating the explosion. For its part, the park has not announced when it will reopen the area to tourists. (EFE)
