As you may recall, Apple revised the rules of the App Store in April, allowing the use of game emulators. The popular Nintendo Delta emulator was one of the first to take advantage of this opportunity. Guided by the requirements of European antitrust legislation, the company implemented this change worldwide.

However, Apple later rejected the UTM SE application for PC emulators, saying that the exception only applied to console game emulators. This statement didn’t sit well with users or regulators, so after some debate, the company later reversed course and approved the emulator.

Apple doesn’t allow apps to use the JIT compiler for security reasons, which means emulated operating systems can run quite slowly, but that doesn’t stop some.

The Verge’s Wes Davis was one of them, and he says the setup process was simple, albeit a long two and a half hours. All it took was an app and a few simple steps with an Apple tablet. He says everything is really slow, but that was the case on XP-era computers as well. New windows take a few seconds to open, and “Start” menu items respond with a similar delay.

But that’s not too much of a stretch, and I honestly think it’s faster than the Compaq computer we had when I was younger.
