Telegram owner Pavel Durov announces that it has reached 950 million active users. He is also said to be working on his own app store.
According to a post by Pavel Durov on the platform, the messaging app Telegram is reaching one billion users. The number of active users currently stands at 950 million, which is 50 million more than a few months ago. Telegram is also working on its own app store and an “in-app” browser, although not many details are known about this yet.
In the post on Telegram, Durov announces that they will “launch a mini app store and an ‘in-app’ browser with support for Web3 sites this month.” Web3 is a decentralized internet that supports blockchain.
“2024 will go down in history as the year when hundreds of millions of people became familiar with blockchain. We are proud that Telegram is at the epicenter of this social transformation,” Durov wrote. He did not reveal any further details in the statement.
Durov is announcing these new developments as a kind of celebration for his new milestone. There are currently 950 million active users on Telegram. In the spring, that number was 900 million. A few months ago, Durov told the Financial Times that his messaging service was generating “hundreds of millions of dollars” in revenue. He plans to take the company public.
