The Japanese company announced a new update for PS5 which brings important changes and includes a new feature that is exclusive to the Slim model. Sony has explained that this update is not yet finished and therefore not ready for a global launch, but it has provided details on its new features and confirmed that it is in beta.
The launch of this update for PS5 will take place in the coming months, but we can already tell you what the most important changes it brings and how it will affect your user experience with said console. Without a doubt, one of the most interesting developments is inclusion 3D sound profiles for headphoneswhich is compatible with both versions of the Sony console, although it will not work with Remote Play or cloud play.
The second most important news that this update brings is the adaptive charging of the DualSense controller and is also compatible with DualSense Edge and PS VR2 Sense. With this feature energy can be saved when the console is in sleep mode, by setting the amount of time the controller is powered, also based on its battery level.

This new adaptive charging feature it will only work with PS5 Slim, i.e. with CFI-2000 models, and it doesn’t work with PlayStation Portal either. The reason for these restrictions is that Sony appears to be using the USB Type-C cable that comes with the Slim model for this new feature to work properly.
To activate adaptive charging, you must enter a route «settings > system > power saving > features available in sleep mode»and once we are there, we have to choose “power USB ports > adaptive”. If we have no controller connected to the USB port, it will stop supplying power after a short time when the console goes into sleep mode.
These types of updates also usually include some changes that can help improve system performance and fix minor bugs or errors, but in this case, Sony didn’t say anything about it. This update is expected to be released in a few months, when the beta testing process is complete. As always, it will gradually reach console users globally.
