Samsung is preparing to introduce another form factor to its smartphone lineup – a folding phone, that is, a phone whose screen flips back and forth. Now, there is a hint that Samsung may gain momentum.
The first patent shows what a vertically extended screen looks like, and some texts describe this design as more economical in terms of the manufacturing process. However, there doesn’t seem to be a winner here, as the odds of parties it will lead may not be practical.
The second patent shows a more realistic design of the screen that opens to the sides. Extending the screen horizontally means the screen size ratio is closer to most of the entertainment we enjoy on our phones throughout the day, like videos and YouTube games.
The third patent also features a screen display that can be expanded horizontally, but focuses on how the folding/floating screen can connect to the phone’s cameras and how they can work together. It also simplifies the design to reduce power losses and free up space inside the device.
We have three generations in the Galaxy Z Fold lineup and Samsung has already left a legacy with it. While not technically the first sophisticated phone, it was the first to make a wave pushing other manufacturers to enter this segment.
So why would Samsung choose a folding form factor if the current sophisticated models feel great? First of all, the collapsing Galaxy does not mean that the existing Fold and Flip will necessarily disappear. Samsung may add it as a third option for buyers to choose from.
Second, the foldable screen offers possibilities such as removing the famous curves of modern models or creating a thinner phone that is more comfortable to hold in your hand. For example, the first folding phone, the Oppo X (2021), (it’s true, Oppo skipped Samsung in the race), has a thickness of just 6.9mm (0.27in) and the thickness of the Galaxy Z Fold 3. – 14.4 mm 0.56 inches). -inch) stay folded.
Whether folding screens are often complicated or even better than traditional ones is still unknown. At the moment, it is unclear what awaits this technology in the future. However, there is no doubt that one of the leading manufacturers with a history of innovation in the field of flexible displays is still very interested in developing new form factors, some of which we can talk about, alongside existing complex displays.
