He added that both men “face multiple charges in the United States for leading the cartel’s criminal operations, including its deadly fentanyl manufacturing and trafficking networks.”

Last February, New York prosecutors indicted Zambada for the fifth time on charges of manufacturing and distributing fentanyl in the United States.

In addition, prosecutors increased the reward from $5 million to $15 million for anyone who provides information leading to the arrest of “El Mayo” Zambada.

“Fentanyl is the most deadly drug threat our country has ever faced, and the Department of Justice will not rest until every cartel leader, member, and associate responsible for poisoning our communities is held accountable,” the US agency stressed.

For its part, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) said Mayo “will soon appear in a U.S. court.” (EFE)
