AMD has confirmed that the launch of Ryzen 9000 processors has been delayed until August. We have two dates, Ryzen 5 9600X and Ryzen 7 9700X will arrive on August 8 and Ryzen 9 9900X and Ryzen 9 9950X will arrive on August 15, but the company never explained what exactly happened, only saying the delay was because They did not meet their qualitative expectations.

Since the AI ​​of the Ryzen 300 was not affected, it got me thinking problem at the production level and not at the architecture level, something that was undoubtedly the least bad of all the options that were being considered. It also made sense because in the end the APU and Ryzen 9000 use different designs and are manufactured in a different way.

The first of them have a design monolithic core and use a specific packaging for socket FP8 while Ryzen 9000 have a chiplet design and the package they use is for socket AM5. This already allows us to see the clear differences between the two and indicates where the problems that caused this delay may have arisen.

The new information also points in that direction and ensures it the problem was in the packaging wow lower than expected performance. This makes sense because as I said earlier, the Ryzen 9000 uses a different package than the Ryzen AI 300. When the issues were discovered after various tests were carried out by some media, AMD decided to withdraw them and delay the launch.

On the other hand, it also makes sense because it’s a packaging-level problem It’s something much easier to solve than one at the silicon or architectural level and fits perfectly with the slight lag that AMD has confirmed. How they compare to Intel Arrow Lake-S remains to be seen, but first analysis published with Ryzen 9 9900X confirms a significant increase in performance compared to the previous generation, so much so that it can come close to the almighty Ryzen 7 7800X3D in games.
