Rumors of a 14-inch iPad are back

with the arrival of the first iPad an incredible twelve years ago (The first generation was introduced on January 27, 2010, just the day after my birthday, which I clearly interpreted as a sign), Apple launched the tablet market, which was largely unknown at the time. Would it be success or failure? Now it might seem that the answer was obvious, but then no, certainty was neither.

Shortly after its arrival on the market, it became clear that the movement was successful, other manufacturers rushed to the market, and interest began to emerge in tablets of various sizes. Something that was taken over by other manufacturers, but not Apple, still led by Steve Jobs, who He even said that Apple would never launch an iPad of a different size than the original model. And so it was… until his death, when the iconic manager died in October 2011, and Apple introduced its successful iPad Mini a year later, in October 2012.

Since, Apple was much more flexible when it came to the size of the iPad, even more so since the advent of the iPad Pro series, with sizes unimaginable in its catalog a few years ago. Today, there are the following sizes of different versions in the models for sale in the Apple store:

IPad mini: 8.3 inches.

iPad: 10.2 inches.

iPad Air: 10.9 inches.

iPadPro: 11 and 12.9 inches.

Recall that the first model, the one introduced in 2010, had a 9-inch displaywhich at the time seemed huge, but today is closer to the size offered by the Mini than its own range.

And that makes a lot of sense, not least because of the development of technology, also due to the growing volume of tablet usean area in which Apple was a major player, but which was also very, very influenced by the efforts of other manufacturers, such as Samsung and Lenovo, to give just a few examples.

So for some time now, rumors have been spreading that Apple may take another step in this direction, with a hypothetical large iPad, an idea that has shown light and shadow so far, but which, after the iPadOS 16 was introduced last Monday, makes much more sense.

Thus, and according to Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), in tweet, Apple is already preparing a 14-inch iPad Pro, which should appear on the market in the middle of 2023, perhaps in April. The leap that the Cupertino would steal in terms of size with the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra, which offers a huge 14.6 screen. The hypothetical 14-inch iPad Pro could have a mini LED panel and, according to Young, with Apple Pro Motion screen technology.

And why now? Very easy for the leap that ipadOS made in multitasking or more precisely, displaying multiple windows at once. With strict restrictions in this regard, a larger screen would of course make use, but it is with this breakthrough that the offer of a larger tablet in the world makes sense.
