First crew to fly StarlinerAstronauts Sunita Williams and Barry Willmore have been on the ISS for more than seven weeks, but the expedition to the orbiting outpost will be limited to just seven days. It is not yet known when they will return to Earth.
Representatives NASA Engineers on Earth reportedly tested replicas of the Starliner engines, and some of them failed during docking with the ISS. As it turned out, the failure was not due to the force or number of pulses, but rather their frequency. The question now remains whether the engines will survive the return flight to Earth.
The Starliner spacecraft is experiencing snowballing problems as engineers continue testing. The problem is that in addition to a series of helium leaks discovered during the Boeing company’s craft’s flight to the ISS, there are now also problems with the batteries, which were designed to last only 45 days in space. The battery life has been extended to 90 days, as the Starliner has already exceeded that time limit.
