Eight Foreign Ministries Ask for Full Respect for Venezuelan Vote Results

The foreign ministries of eight Latin American countries have called for respect for votes in the presidential elections this Sunday in Venezuela.

The statement was released by the foreign ministries of Argentina, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and the Dominican Republic.

Panamanian President José Raúl Mulino has instructed his Foreign Minister Javier Martínez Hache to maintain constant contact with his counterparts in the region to monitor the situation in Venezuela, reiterating that respecting the will of the people is fundamental to democracy.

On the other hand, US Vice President Kamala Harris stressed that Washington supports the Venezuelan people who expressed their vote in today’s historic presidential elections.

After the polls closed, Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado asked Venezuelans to remain at the polls while the votes were counted. “We have been fighting for this day for all these years. These are decisive minutes, decisive hours,” he said. (Europe Press)
