Vivo to launch its first mixed reality headset in 2025

Recently the company Vivo It held an image festival in China where it presented its vision for the future of mobile imaging. During the event, the company also confirmed that it will be moving into mixed reality (MR). Vivo has officially announced that it will launch its MR headset in 2025.

Vivo vice president Hu Baishan hinted at the company’s interest in MRI technology at the Boao Asia Forum earlier this year. There, Baishan said MRI is the next big thing in mobile technology. And now we have official confirmation of Vivo’s plans in this area.

Augmented reality (XR) is hardly new territory for Vivo. The company launched its first augmented reality smart glasses in 2019. However, it was not a standalone device but required a connection to 5G smartphones to function.

We expect the upcoming MRI device to offer a more immersive and autonomous experience, similar to Apple’s Vision Pro, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

Vivo’s commitment to innovation is consistent with its strong market performance. Vivo is currently the number one smartphone market in China with a 19% market share, according to Canalys. The company’s high-end Vivo X series has also been showing steady growth, further strengthening its position in the competitive premium consumer device segment.

Rivals such as Huawei and Oppo are also said to be developing similar MR products, but there is no official confirmation from these brands yet.

Image Festival has become a platform for Vivo to showcase its innovations. The company has confirmed that its next flagship smartphones (likely the Vivo X200 series) will feature its own Blueprint image sensor, Blueprint algorithm matrix, and Blueprint Imaging chip.

Vivo’s entry into the mixed reality (MR) space is a significant step in the wearables market, and the company’s success in the smartphone space will undoubtedly influence its approach to these new frontiers.
