Nine countries demand urgent OAS meeting on Venezuelan elections

The governments of Uruguay, Argentina, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, Panama, Paraguay, Peru and the Dominican Republic expressed their deep concern to prepare for the presidential elections in Venezuela.

In a joint statement released on Monday, the countries demand a complete review of the election results and They call for an urgent meeting of the Organization of American States (OAS).

The declaration stresses the need for independent election observers to ensure that the will of the Venezuelan people is respected, who participated in the elections en masse and peacefully.

The vote counting must be transparent and the results must not be in doubt.

Given the situation, the governments of these countries announced that they would request an urgent meeting of the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States (OAS) in order to adopt a resolution that would defend the will of the people as formulated in Democratic Charter and fundamental principles of democracy in the region.

This call to the OAS is aimed at ensuring respect for democratic values and guaranteeing a fair and transparent electoral process in Venezuela. The signatory countries consider the intervention of the OAS to be crucial to resolve the situation and maintain democratic stability in the region.

The joint statement reflects growing international concern about the situation in Venezuela and the determination of these governments to take concrete measures to ensure that the will of the venezuelan people will be respected and that democratic principles prevail.
