The National Electoral Council (CNE) has declared President Nicolás Maduro the winner of the presidential elections held on Sunday, July 28. The act took place without informing the governing body of citizens about the final result of the elections.
“Nicolas Maduro is proclaimed president of Venezuela,” exclaimed National Electoral Council President Elvis Amoroso at 1:03 p.m. on July 29.
Maduro arrived at the headquarters of the National Electoral Council at around 1:00 p.m. The president, who completed his second reelection, arrived at the electoral body accompanied by rectors Elvis Amoroso, Rosalba Gil Pacheco, Carlos Quintero and Juan Carlos Delpino.
“Venezuelans expressed their absolute will to elect Maduro as the leader of the country. The elections took place in an atmosphere of respect, peace and democratic participation, although some tried to provoke violence. There were many attacks on our electoral system, but the moral and ethical capacity of the people of the CNE overcame all obstacles,” Amoroso added.
At 12:20 a.m. on July 29, National Electoral Council President Elvis Amoroso announced that despite the transmission of 80% of the protocols and “ strong and irreversible tendency» Maduro received 5,150,092 votes. González Urrutia received 4,445,978 votes (44.2%). The remaining eight candidates received 462,704, or only 4.6% of the votes.
The difference between the main candidates was 704,114 votes. Participation in these elections was 59%.
No updated election data was provided at Monday’s event.
Maduro will remain president of the republic until January 5, 2031, after his mandate was questioned by a significant part of the international community due to the “unconstitutional” origin of the elections, the imposition of sanctions and a series of negotiations with the opposition and the United States that led to these elections.
A call from the international community
The event in Caracas came at a time when the international community was calling for the process to be made transparent to rule out any fraud.
The Argentine government did not recognize the election results, with President Javier Miley calling the act an “electoral scam.”
