SpaceX has fired up the engines of its newest Starship spacecraft in preparation for an upcoming test flight. The company conducted a static fire test of the Starship upper stage engines from a height of 50 meters (160 feet) at the Starbase launch site in Boca Chica, South Texas, on July 26, 2024.
As part of the check, the engines were briefly started while the ship remained moored at the platform. Such static fire tests are a traditional pre-launch test.
A few weeks ago, SpaceX conducted fire tests of the engines of its Starship Super Heavy launch vehicle. The upcoming test flight will be Starship’s fifth. The exact date has not yet been determined. In early July, SpaceX founder and CEO Elon Musk hinted that Starship would fly again around August 2. However, according to media reports, the company is currently aiming for late August or early September.
