On Tuesday, the Kremlin called on the Venezuelan opposition admit defeat in Sunday’s presidential election and congratulate Nicolas Maduro on his election victory.

“We see that the opposition does not want to resign and admit its defeat, although “We believe that he should do this and congratulate the winner of the elections.”This was stated by the presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov at a daily telephone press conference.

Peskov also considered it “very important,” referring to the post-election protests that broke out in the country, “that attempts to inflame the situation inside Venezuela are not encouraged by third countries.”

Moreover, he advocated that “Venezuela is free from external interference.” But he made no mention of opposition accusations of fraud and calls for transparency from many Latin American countries.

Russian President, Vladimir Putin congratulated Maduro on Monday for his election victory, telling him that he was always “welcome” in the country; while Russian deputies and senators present as observers denied official fraud.

At the same time, the Russian embassy in Caracas on Tuesday called on its citizens in this Latin American country avoid going outside as much as possible, crowds and conflict areas.
