OpenAI announces a new voice mode feature that allows users to have real-time conversations with ChatGPT. A limited group of paying users can try out this alpha version.

ChatGPT introduces a new enhanced voice mode in the alpha version. A select few (paying ChatGPT users) can have a one-on-one conversation with ChatGPT. According to OpenAI, the chatbot takes your emotions into account and allows you to pause the conversation if necessary.

This is not the first time OpenAI has had such a voice feature. During the launch of GPT-4o in May, the company unveiled the new audio feature, although it was met with much criticism. The voice is said to sound eerily similar to that of actress Scarlett Johansson from the film Her.

Real-time conversation

OpenAI has clearly not stood still after its first demo of ChatGPT’s voice feature. The company announced this in a post on

“The enhanced Voice Mode offers more natural, real-time conversations, allows you to pause at any time, and sense and respond to your emotions,” says a post on X by OpenAI. Currently, a small group of paying users can test the new feature. By fall, all ChatGPT Plus members should have access to Voice Mode’s extensive toolset.
