Ex-BBC presenter pleads guilty to possessing indecent images of children

Former British television presenter Huw Edwards, the long-time face of BBC News starpleaded guilty on Wednesday three counts of possessing indecent photographs of children.

Edwards made his way through a crowd of photographers and cameras at Westminster Magistrates’ Court in London, where admitted receiving multiple indecent images of children between December 2020 and August 2021.

When asked if wanted to plead guilty to all three chargesrelating to three different categories of indecent images, Edwards said, “Guilty.”

Hope said seven of the 41 images were of the most serious type, and two of those seven were pornographic videos of the rape of a child, possibly between the ages of seven and nine.

The last indecent image sent to Edwards was in August 2021, when the man who sent it claimed that “The person who appeared in the video was quite young and had more illegal images”– said Nadezhda.

He added that Edwards told the man “not to send him any illegal images and from that point on nothing more was sent,” although The chat continued and more legal pornographic images were sent.

Edwards’ lawyer Philip Evans stressed that the charges his client pleaded guilty to only relate to images sent to him via WhatsApp.

Evans said:

There is no suggestion in this case that Mr Edwards in any way, in the traditional sense of the word, created any images by any physical means or created images of any kind.

Edwards did not comment on the situation as he left court.

Claire Brinton, of the Crown Prosecution Service, said in a statement: “Access to indecent images of minors perpetuates the sexual exploitation of children, which causes deep and lasting trauma to these victims.”
