Atos published its half-year financial report this morning. It’s been a while since there was good news and now many numbers are turning negative again. The final accounting amounts to a net loss of 1.94 billion euros. In 2023, Atos made a loss of 3.4 billion euros and seems to be well on its way to that this year.
Atos is undergoing a drastic restructuring. Assets were written off by a further 1.6 billion euros. Sales fell by ten percent in the first half of the year. Many customers terminated their contracts with Atos, especially in North America.
Despite the poor numbers, the future looks a little brighter for Atos. Atos closed a much-needed financing worth €1.675 million in mid-July. This fresh capital will keep the ship afloat, at least for a while. However, things looked very bad when Onepoint’s ultimate rescue attempt went overboard.
In the long term, Atos needs to ensure that the news is reported in a more positive way. CFO Jacques-François De Prest is only too aware of this. In his statement, he stressed that regaining customer trust is Atos’ top priority. Last week, the company appointed a new CEO, Jean Pierre Mustier: the fifth in two years.
The French government is prepared to give the company an additional lifeline. Atos is a major supplier to the army and the secret services, which means that the company has a national importance for France that should not be underestimated. Anyone who follows the Olympic Games may have already noticed that Atos can call itself the IT partner of the sporting event
