This happens with Google Gemini (in this case I mean the service, not LLM) as well as with similar services, and that Its basic usefulness is more or less limited depending on several aspectsand that the fastest (and in many cases the best) way to expand it comes through extensions, which is why the three main rivals in this field, which are the ones I mentioned at the beginning, already have them and with the intention of adding more in the future.
If you don’t know which they are, Extensions are integrations of other services that provide their own functionality. within the service into which they were integrated. This allows, due to its level of specialization as well as access to non-public data, that it can provide much more specific results to user requests. From getting information about emails you’ve received in your Gmail account (available in Gemini) to taking advantage of the incredible features of WolframAlpha’s computational intelligence tools in ChatGPT.
The potential for integrating services into chatbots is simply sensational., as it enables these tools to be much more accurate and efficient, without the need to significantly expand their training base, parameters, and therefore technical complexity. Not to mention that using services that are not based on AI will avoid the risk of hallucinations and other failures typical of generative models.
Three months ago, the first Google Gemini extension arrived in Spain, as we told you here, but that was just the beginning, as more will surely arrive in the future. And in this sense, today we find very interesting news, because, as they found out in Android Authority, Google is preparing an extension for Google Gemini that will integrate Spotify. At the moment, the feature is hidden in version 15.30.27.29 of the Google app, but after doing some tests, they managed to get it working.
The test performed was simple, consisting only of ask a Gemini to play a song on Spotify. Interestingly, it initially showed the YouTube Music tab, a service that already has integration with Google’s chatbot, but then started playing the requested song without having to focus on the app for the opening song service. That alone is interesting, although we’ll have to wait and see if this integration provides more comprehensive features, either at launch or later.
