Microsoft is making the new Outlook update generally available. It includes the Copilot assistant, useful features to keep your inbox in order, and integration with Teams and OneDrive.

Avid Outlook users have long known that Microsoft is working on a new version of Outlook, or have already tested it extensively. Microsoft has been working on a new version for some time now, with which the company hopes to bring the web and desktop versions closer together. Last month, the company announced that it would make the new version available to all users by the end of the month, and that deadline now seems to have been met.

Microsoft announces the new features in a blog. The latest Outlook update includes a Copilot assistant to help you compose and summarize emails. You also have improved features to keep your inbox in order or turn tasks into a to-do list. In addition, Microsoft integrates Teams and OneDrive for a smoother work experience. The latest Outlook version is ready for general release.

From old to new

Microsoft’s plans for a new version of the Outlook app have been on the table for some time. Previously, users could switch between the old and new versions of Outlook using a switch in the top right of the app. This meant that some of the new features could be tried out and Microsoft asked for feedback. Not everyone liked the new version straight away and some of it showed strange behavior.

For those who can’t yet part with the “old” Outlook: This version will not disappear before 2029. Enough time to accept the latest version into your work rhythm. In the long term, the changeover should be possible for every user.

Microsoft Copilot

It’s no surprise that Microsoft is integrating its Copilot into the new Outlook app. This allows you to ask for help right in the Copilot app, such as composing a reply or making suggestions for a response based on the context of the email you received. In addition, Copilot can help you summarize long emails so you can get through all your emails faster.

Not everything AI

Fortunately, not all of the new updates have to do with AI. For example, Microsoft is adding a new feature that lets you pin an email to the top of your inbox, for example if you don’t forget to reply to that email. You can also quickly turn tasks from a received email into a to-do list by dragging it to the second “My Day” section.

Additionally, you don’t want to agree to an event right away but want to stay on top of things? Then you can now keep an eye on it more easily without immediately signaling that you’re definitely going. Microsoft is also improving integration with other apps like Teams and OneDrive. For example, you can add files from OneDrive without having to switch apps by simply typing “/” to see suggested files you’ve recently worked on.
