A survey conducted by ITdaily among IT professionals shows that reading emails while on vacation is the rule rather than the exception. Only one in three people doesn’t keep an eye on their inbox.

If you haven’t noticed it from the summer temperatures, you’ve probably noticed it from the many out-of-office messages: the summer holidays are in full swing. But not everyone can just let go of work while on holiday. Everyone knows that workaholic who answers every email even when on holiday. According to a survey conducted by ITdaily among IT experts, this person seems to be no exception.

ITdaily asked IT experts whether they check their emails when on vacation. 162 readers took part in the survey. Only a third (32 percent) said they never read emails when on vacation.

Sometimes read aloud, but often also answer

Twenty-three percent say they occasionally read an email but put off responding until after the holidays. For example, 45 percent respond to emails during the holidays, although to varying degrees. Thirty percent only respond to emails they consider too important to leave until after the holidays.

For 15 percent of IT professionals, reading and answering emails is part of their daily routine, even during vacation time. Four percent want to be sure that they don’t miss any emails and want to keep real-time notifications activated.
