Veeam and Commvault simultaneously introduced very similar new features for Microsoft 365 backup and recovery, with the goal of providing businesses with greater speed, scalability and cyber resilience.
Veeam Software introduces new Microsoft 365 Backup Storage functionality within Veeam Data Cloud. This Microsoft Azure-based solution provides Backup-as-a-Service (BaaS) for Microsoft 365.
The solution is designed to combine the benefits of Veeam’s data protection and ransomware recovery technology with the latest Microsoft 365 functionality. The new backup functionality integrates with Veeam’s existing backup service for Microsoft 365 and offers improved recovery and eDiscovery options.
Veeam is not alone
At the same time, Commvault announces integrated Microsoft 365 Backup Storage as part of Commvault Cloud Backup & Recovery for Microsoft 365. This solution also offers protection options for Microsoft 365 workloads such as Exchange Online, Teams, OneDrive and SharePoint.
Like its competitor Veeam, the service is based on Microsoft Azure and offers a unified management environment via the Commvault Cloud Dashboard. According to Commvault, this simplifies administration and reduces total cost of ownership.
The focus is on volume and granularity
Veeam highlights how the new functionality enables organizations to manage large amounts of data quickly and efficiently. More than 100 TB of data or more than 10,000 objects can be protected and recovered within a few hours. The solution also offers mass recovery capabilities to protect against ransomware or malware attacks.
Commvault highlights extended retention as well as detailed recovery options and self-recovery capabilities for Microsoft 365 data. These features help organizations choose the right level of protection and recovery, hopefully leading to improved efficiency and recovery capabilities at the lowest possible cost.
Availability
Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 with Microsoft 365 Backup Storage will be available in three flavors: Express, Flex and Premium starting in early August. Commvault Cloud Backup & Recovery for Microsoft 365 will be available later this quarter.
