Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado has called for a mobilization of all forces, with a particular focus on the capital Caracas, to protest against alleged fraud in last Sunday’s presidential election.

“We won on July 28 and now we are going to reassemble Caracas,” Machado posted in a message on his social media account. “Ratify our truth: WE HAVE WON!” he said in a message posted on Friday evening.

“And we must continue to move forward to defend the TRUTH. We have the evidence, and the world already recognizes it. This is a spiritual battle, and we walk hand in hand with God; HE accompanies this civil movement for family unity, human dignity and freedom,” he added.

In his message, Machado denounced that the authorities “harass and kidnap honest citizens just because they worked to protect everyone’s votes.” “Tomorrow, as a family, with your flag raised, peacefully and enthusiastically, we will meet all over Venezuela! In Caracas, we will see you at 10 a.m. on the main avenue of Las Mercedes,” he declared in his message, which culminated in the phrase “VENEZUELA WILL BE FREE!”

Attack in Caracas: Nicolas Maduro

Meanwhile, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said “opposition commanders” were planning an “attack” in Caracas this Saturday as part of the demonstrations.

“I want to announce a new ambush that is planned for tomorrow, Saturday (…). “Part of these commando groups, armed with grenades and other weapons, intend to carry out an attack tomorrow in the area of Bello Monte (Caracas),” Maduro said in statements broadcast by state channel VTV, citing the political organization of the opposition campaign group Edmundo González Urrutia.

In this spirit, Maduro not only denounced that these opposition groups had already carried out “previous attacks on the police” of Venezuela, but also repeated his accusations against Machado and González that they are part of an “attempted coup d’état led by the United States.”

“We inform the media that Machado and González’s accomplice Urrutia intend to sow chaos among their people; “The evil of the demon and the murderer has no limits,” the Venezuelan president said from the Miraflores presidential palace.

Following the accusations, Maduro called on the country’s security forces to “maintain maximum vigilance to guarantee the safety of all Venezuelans,” despite the fact that “the criminals are already being sought.”

Likewise, the president called the campaign of a “far-right expert in false positives” in the July 28 elections a “farce,” claiming that “they already had a plan for violence and damage” and that he was the only one “guaranteeing peace, order and tranquility for all Venezuelans.”

Meanwhile, pro-Maduro forces have also called for a Great National Peace March this Saturday to support Maduro’s victory in last Sunday’s presidential election. The march will end at Miraflores Palace, the headquarters of the Venezuelan president.

Venezuela’s National Electoral Council (CNE) declared Maduro the winner, with 51.95 percent of the vote compared to González’s 43.18 percent.

As soon as the first results were in on Monday, the opposition quickly declared victory (which they claimed to have won with more than 70 percent of the vote) and demanded an internationally supported recount.
