First time I heard about it Lenovo ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybridvery early in the year (since it was introduced at CES 2024, as we told you then), I had a feeling that, as I was later able to verify, it was generic, and that many of us thought that what they were showing us It was a proof of concept, i.e. a sample that it is possible to design a device that meets certain characteristics but does not become a commercial product.
In case you didn’t read it then, and although I’ll expand on it a bit later, this ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid is a surprising (and in many cases very practical) a combination of an Android tablet and a Windows laptop, all on one device. And yes, it is true that this is not the first initiative that we see in this sense, since Samsung and Lenovo themselves, among others, have tried it before. However, this new proposal seems much more mature than the previous ones.
The fact is that although Lenovo even talked about a price of $1,999 when it showed off the device at CES 2024, the opinion of many was that it would not make it to the market, but those of us who thought about it today have to admit that we were wrong. . And as we read in Videocardz, The Lenovo ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid is now on sale in China. Of course, it did so at a slightly higher price than was announced in January, namely 15,999 yuan. about $2,250 depending on the exchange rate. Something that in turn makes us wonder about its hypothetical price if it finally makes the jump to the international market.
Its operation is simple: if we only use the tablet, we will use Android, while by connecting the keyboard (which actually integrates all the components of its PC part) we will make the jump to Windows or, if we want, we can use both systems simultaneously in split screen, as we read in the mentioned publication. In addition, there are some features to facilitate the exchange between the two operating systems (which are not integrated with each other), such as 10 gigabytes of memory accessible from both. And as you can see in the picture above, it is also possible to use the PC independently, by connecting it to the screen, so we will also have the possibility to use both devices at the same time.
When it comes to technical specifications, this ThinkBook Plus Gen 5 Hybrid is well stocked on both sides. When used as a Windows 11 PC, we have IIntel Core Ultra 7 155H with integrated Intel Arc graphics, accompanied 32 gigabytes of RAM LPDDR5x-7467 a one terabyte of storage SSD PCIe Gen 4. The tablet, which integrates Android 13, is powered by Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 with 12 gigabytes of LPDDR5 RAM and 256 gigabytes of UFS 3.1 storage. And of course each part has its own battery, 38Vh in the case of the tablet and 75Vh in the PC part.
Without knowing if it will finally make the jump to other markets, and perhaps with points to improve, such as the integration between the two operating systems, we find ourselves in front of a laptop and a tablet, both high-end, in a solution that allows us to have both devices in one system, which is not only interesting but also quite practical in several contexts.
