Cargo spaceship Swan Northrop Grumman has successfully reached the International Space Station despite problems that arose shortly after launch.
NASA astronauts Matthew Dominique and Janet Epps captured Cygnus with the 17-meter Canadarm2 robotic manipulator arm at 03:11 EST (10:11 Moscow time) on August 6, 2024. At the time, the station was flying at an altitude of about 418.5 km over the South Atlantic Ocean.
The truck delivered 3,720 kilograms of food, scientific equipment and other cargo. The flight control center in Houston uses the Canadarm2 manipulator to precisely position Cygnus in space, and the truck then docks with America’s Earth-facing Unity module.
Cygnus launched on August 4, 2024, using SpaceX’s Falcon 9 launch vehicle. Cygnus successfully separated from the Falcon 9 upper stage and entered low Earth orbit, but later encountered problems that slightly delayed the necessary maneuvers. However, the vehicle reached the ISS on schedule.
