Eaton launches 5p Gen 2 UPS for Edge and Office

Eaton introduces the UPS 5P Gen 2, a range of compact power solutions for edge and IT environments with improved security and control compared to the previous generation.

UPS specialist Eaton is launching the 5P Gen 2 UPS series. The new series offers an output of up to 1,350 watts, 22 percent more than its predecessor and, according to Eaton itself, 33 percent more than comparable models on the market.

Machine Learning

This makes the UPS suitable for various applications in IT environments. According to Eaton, the design of the 5P Gen 2 ensures stable performance and energy savings. In addition, advanced load segmentation offers the ability to prioritize critical equipment, resulting in optimal battery life when it is needed.

The UPS 5P Gen 2 features Eaton’s ABM+ Advanced Battery Management technology, which is said to extend battery life by half. Eaton integrates machine learning algorithms and gets a lot of points for not calling them “AI” in the press release.

The ML algorithms theoretically provide accurate predictions of battery life. When it’s time for a new battery, you’ll receive a timely notification. Hot-swappable batteries and a battery replacement wizard via the integrated graphical LCD display also make maintenance easy enough.

Security and administration

Eaton is highlighting its Intelligent Power Manager (IPM2) and Distributed IT Performance Management (DITPM) systems, which enable remote monitoring and management of IT infrastructure, even in hard-to-reach locations. This means you can remotely maintain and even update these UPS devices.

The 5P Gen 2 UPS is available in a compact 1U rack or tower version, making it suitable for different rooms and setups. The devices are optionally available with a Gigabit network card. Support for Eaton’s Brightlayer software ensures integration into virtualization environments, ensuring continuous service and data integrity in these environments.
