Google Chrome is the king of desktop browsers. It’s no secret. The company’s alternative to the search engine took off shortly after its launch in 2008. It caught up with Apple’s Safari in 2009, and Mozilla overtook Firefox in 2011Shortly afterwards, he did the same thing with the now defunct Microsoft program Internet Explorer.

Since then, we’ve seen firsthand how Google Chrome has become the most preferred choice among users. Now, there are some things that don’t go unnoticed in the rankings. In recent months, we’ve seen more than a few interesting changes that are rather dull in the statistics.

Microsoft’s browser is groundbreaking

Microsoft Edge, originally known as ‘Project Spartan’, first appeared with Windows 10 in 2015. The browser abandoned his owner’s motorcycle and we launched a new way based on Chromium. We can say that this is one of the most important changes that helped make it a more popular offering among users.

Microsoft’s bet seemed to be paying off. As of March 2021, Edge had a market share of 8.01%. But the outlook has slowly continued to improve. In May 2023, the Redmond company’s browser had a market share of 9.94%. Months later, we witnessed a turning point: it surpassed Safari to become the second most used browser.

Edge achieved this with a market share of 11.9% when it replaced the browser developed by Apple. Months passed and the browser closed July with a market share of 13.75%. Chrome continues to lead An overwhelming 64.7% of the market Safari comes in third with 9.1% of the desktop browser market.

Chrome continues to lead the market with an overwhelming 64.7% share.

Chrome has been losing ground, albeit slightly, since April of this year. It was at 65.6% that month, 64.8% in May, and 64.6% in June. This data from Statista doesn’t suggest that Edge will overtake Chrome in the short term, but it’s interesting to see how these alternatives have fared over time.

Chrome, although known for being a RAM hog, has a solid position thanks to its compatibility, functionality and overall performance. Edge is offered as a solid and integrated alternative With Microsoft servicesmainly AI related ones like Copilot.
