Surfing from a smartphone can be very annoying and distracting, especially when the user opens a page and its content is immediately covered with many banners and videos. Intrusive ads are annoying and irritating, and Apple has decided to give users temporary “Thanos power.”

The new “Distraction Control” feature, which has appeared in the fifth beta of Safari for iOS 18 and iPadOS 18, allows users to temporarily remove unwanted elements from websites.

How does it work

This feature doesn’t work as a permanent ad blocker; instead, it temporarily hides distractions and allows the website to log ad views, ensuring that content creators don’t miss out on revenue.

To activate it, users press the button used to activate reading mode, which focuses on the text content of the web page.

Distraction Control is expected to be part of the final versions of iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 next month. It will likely improve the mobile web browsing experience, as users will now be able to stay on sites without annoying ads, at least for a short while.
