Android veterans certainly remember the catchy name AirDroid. The app isn’t as popular today as it once was, but that doesn’t mean it’s still as magical. In fact, almost 15 years after its creation, AirDroid still works perfectly.

This is what AirDroid came for It acts as a bridge between our Android phones and computersIt’s something that still remains a challenge after all these years. Despite new initiatives from Microsoft and some additional efforts from Google, Android and Windows or Mac get along just fine, but AirDroid is there to reconcile them.

Android airdrop to PC

Long before your Windows Phone came along, in the era of Android Icecream Sandwich, AirDroid Control your mobile from official app or websiteTransfer files, view contacts or write SMS from the comfort of your PC.

Back then, “helper” apps like Samsung Kies were still in fashion for managing mobile phones from your computer (and creating or restoring backups), but every brand had one, and you normally had to connect them with a cable. The advantage of AirDroid was that it works over the Internet without cablesand this worked on almost every Android mobile phone.

Over time, the number of things you can do with AirDroid has increased, but some of them are now limited to those who pay a subscription. Everything you can do with AirDroid:

  • View and manage photos and videos on your mobile phone (rotate, download, use as wallpaper or delete).
  • View and control your mobile phone directly from AirDroid web, remotely and without installing anything.
  • View and manage your mobile contacts.
  • View, manage and reply to SMS messages from your computer.
  • Find your lost phone.
  • View and manage your files, you can send files from PC to Android and from Android to Android.
  • Check the call log.
  • Listen to music and audio files saved on your mobile phone.
  • View and add ringtones.
  • View your mobile camera remotely if you pay for the premium subscription.
  • If you are paying for a premium subscription, search.
  • Install apps from APK.
  • Share clipboard between mobile devices.
  • Send web links that will open on mobile devices.
  • Check mobile notifications.

And although the years have not passed in vain for anyone, not even for mobile applications, all of this still exists today. AirDroid continues to be updated (the last time was in May) and still works as good as ever.

Of course, Android has maintained various aspects of its system security over time to prevent abuse of spy apps. Initial setup requires a few extra steps and mirroring requires us to manually initiate recording on mobile rather than automatically as it did a decade ago, but that’s a small cost of progress.

It is true that today You have more options to manage your mobile phone from your PC. Microsoft’s option, Mobile Link, points to some very interesting options, like using your phone as a webcam on Windows, but for more mundane things like viewing photos, contacts, text messages, or files on your phone, AirDroid is even more powerful. Not to mention, it’ll also work on a Mac or anywhere else you have a modern web browser.

Airdroid

AirDroid is an old dog that we can’t say stays young. If you’ve used it in the past, It’s basically the same as it was back then. For better or worse, the only change is that you will have to spend more time granting permissions on your mobile phone.

AND If you’ve never used AirDroidCongratulations, because you have discovered a tool that can be extremely useful in certain situations. I invite you to try it by downloading it from Google Play and see the magic for yourself.
