Electoral court rejects decision to force AMLO to vote

[Síguenos ahora también en WhatsApp. Da clic aquí] An electoral court has rejected a ruling finding that President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador coerced citizens to vote by interfering in 36 morning conferences.

Judges Reyes Rodriguez and Janine Otalora upheld the interpretation that President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador violated the law by invoking the electoral process and making statements that undermined fairness in the struggle.

However, the majority of Alfredo Fuentes, Monica Soto and Felipe de la Mata concluded that the claim was time-barred because the allegations were made from 2023 onwards, exceeding the time limit for filing and resolving claims.

Moreover, they said the impact of each of AMLO’s statements had to be assessed given that about twenty speeches were made before the official start of the electoral process and several more before the start of the campaigns.

Rodriguez Mondragon said the matter was not exhausted because the process had been extended in legal proceedings and in the accumulation of complaints. He proposed accepting the latest complaint as a certificate, but his colleagues rejected it.

With this decision, the issue will return to the Specialized Chamber, which will now have to prepare another sentence, but taking into account the possible outcome of the process and the impact of each statement.
