Windows 12 could happen Another Microsoft operating system. The successor to Windows 11 has been the target of important rumors in the past, in fact it was believed that the said operating system would arrive at the end of this year, but in the end what Microsoft launched was the 24H2 update.

Release of this update left in the air Microsoft’s plans with Windows 12, but the truth is that it was a completely logical step by the Redmond giant. In the end, the company preferred to wait, and it has important reasons for this, especially when it sees the situation in which Windows 10 and Windows 11 find themselves.

So when could the new Windows arrive?

At the best case at the end of next yearbetween the months of October and November, but it is possible that Microsoft will decide to postpone it and wait until 2026. Right now, all options are open and I’m considering the ones that make the most sense.

Have Windows 7 precedent, which was a very popular operating system. Microsoft was aware of this and had a similar situation that Windows 10 and Windows 11 are now experiencing. That is why they decided to launch Windows 11 a year after Windows 7 support ended.

Microsoft did the same with the launch of Windows 10, waiting a year after the end of support for Windows XP to launch the operating system. This other precedent leaves us with a clear pattern which Microsoft could repeat with the launch of Windows 12.

Why Microsoft is in no rush to release Windows 12

The two main reasons are the fragmentation and low market share that Windows 11 has right now Launching Windows 12 now or in the short term would mean:

  • Having three operating systems on the market with the fragmentation that comes with it.
  • Cannibalize market share for Windows 11 and complicate things for Windows 10.
  • Risk that they won’t like Windows 12 and people will stick to Windows 10 even more because it would still have support.

Microsoft hasn’t set a release date, so We don’t know when his next operating system will come. It may take months or even years, but one thing we can be sure of is that at least the Redmond giant will wait for the end of Windows 10’s life cycle, which will happen in December, October 14, 2025.

The death of Windows 10 could mean the birth of Windows 12. It makes a lot of sense because with the end of official support for the said operating system, Microsoft would eliminate three problems in one fell swoop which I explained to you earlier.

Windows 11 would stand alone and would be a good time to launch a new operating system that could also be positioned as a more advanced, better designed and refined option. Microsoft could also play in its favor with the advantage that Windows 11 has not ended its popularity with the general public increase the adoption rate of Windows 12.
