In July 2021, OnePlus launched a mid-range Nord 2 smartphone in India. Since then, there have been several reports of the device exploding and even causing severe burns and injuries to victims. So far, the company has mostly talked about external damage.

Now, there are reports that another OnePlus Nord 2 device exploded while a user was talking on the phone.

The event was first known on March 26, 2022. According to Twitter user Lakshayvrm (@lakshayvrm), the device exploded in his brother’s hand while he was talking on the phone. As a result of the explosion, pieces of molten metal stuck to the palm and face of the user.

In a distant tweet, Lakshay documented that he and his brother went to OnePlus service center in CP (Connot Place, New Delhi) to find a solution. It is reported that the service center asked the injured party to wait 2-3 days, then called Lakshay to get the burning device as they could not do anything.

Judging by the photos presented in the tweet, the phone is completely damaged and cannot be repaired. The explosion appears to have occurred on the left edge of the phone where the phone exploded in early cases.

A 91mobiles report said the victim filed a lawsuit against OnePlus in consumer lawsuit after the company failed to get a proper response to the incident. After the initial instruction to a Twitter user to contact the company via DM so they can evaluate the claim, it seems that OnePlus is still keeping quiet about it.

The incident is just the latest in a long series of reported OnePlus Nord 2 explosions. OnePlus Nord users have expressed concern about the incident, saying they “fear” that their device will explode. Source
