When Google and Apple release operating system updates each year, they always have features that inspire each other. That’s why 9to5google talked about the most important features of iOS 16, which Google made first, and currently available to Android phones.

The new lock screen in iOS 16 looks great. However, Google has long had a Glance widget that provides you with similar information, is about to appear on iOS, and also “guesses” what you might need.

A much smaller feature added by Apple is Live Events, which allows apps to add a widget to the bottom of the lock screen with information like sports results or the time before a taxi arrives. In essence, this is similar to Android messages that have been available to Android app developers for years.

In iOS 16, Photos can now automatically share photos of your family in a shared album accessible to all members. Google Photos has been doing this for at least two years. It has the same features as Apple but is not limited to Apple products.

Dictation in the new version of iOS now lets you edit and interact with what you dictate. You can tap and delete items and just tell your phone what you want it to do. Also, it now automatically inserts punctuation marks. These dictation features are a direct copy of Google’s voice typing assistant. It has the same functions as interacting with text during the writing process, voice checking what you have written before, and correcting punctuation.
