The Proton Pass password manager can now be unlocked using your fingerprint or facial recognition, but only for paying users.

Proton is adding a new feature to its password manager Proton Pass, which came out of beta earlier this year. Biometric identification lets you unlock your password manager using your fingerprint or facial recognition. Either with Touch ID on macOS or with Windows Hello on Microsoft’s desktop operating system. The new feature is only available to paying users, but non-paying users will also get a new feature. Biometric identification

Traditionally, you use a password to open the Proton Pass password manager. This can be dangerous if malicious people steal your smartphone and try to retrieve the password. To increase the security of the application, Proton adds biometric identification to its application. This makes it impossible for attackers to open the application because only you can unlock it by fingerprint or facial recognition.

Users can unlock the Proton Pass app in different ways depending on the platform. On macOS, the app is accessed via Touch ID, while on Windows, Windows Hello is used, which is based on facial recognition. Another new feature has been made available for non-paying users, namely IdentitiesThis makes filling out contact information much easier since the password manager does it for you.

Paying users

Anyone who wants to use this feature must take out a paid subscription to the Proton Pass. For this, you pay 4.99 euros per month. For an annual subscription, the monthly amount is 1.99 euros. Finally, there is the Proton Unlimited subscription, with which you can use all services for a price of 12.99 euros per month.
