Carter Center acknowledges Venezuela opposition victory

Jenny Lincoln, head of the Carter Center’s election observation mission, said there was no evidence of a cyberattack on Venezuela’s National Electoral Council and, after reviewing the available information, “confirmed” the victory of opponent Edmundo González.

He confirmed that the lack of transparency by the electoral authorities was a “major flaw” in the election. In an interview with AFP, Lincoln said the government had “a lot” of time to produce the figures but had simply failed to do so.

Lincoln confirmed that CNE has the data but chose not to disclose it.

In an interview with Noticias RCN, he said the government simply “didn’t want” to make the protocols transparent.

Since Monday, July 29, the Carter Center has been asking the National Electoral Council (CNE) of Venezuela to immediately publish all the minutes of the tables set on election day.
