The development does not stop even in August, Google has stepped into the accelerator of Android Auto. And we already have a new beta version among us: 12.6. After the release of Android Auto 12.5 in its stable form, it was clear that Google would not take long to improve its infotainment system. Of course, we did not see any significant changes.
It’s been almost two weeks since Google released the stable Android Auto 12.5 and the first beta of Android Auto 12.6, this time the development time was a bit longer than usual. The system for vehicles remains mature, the Coolwalk interface is well established, and Google has fixed many of the bugs found in previous versions (and is also patching many of them). It’s recommended to keep the app up to date.
New beta version available for download now
As is usually the case in Android Auto development, the new version is coming to Google Play only for those in the test group. This group is currently closed, but it appears to be full, but there is a chance to log in. This is how we managed to infiltrate the Android Auto beta.
Continuing the tradition, Google has not released any changes beyond the usual bug fixes and stability improvements. We analyzed the Android Auto 12.6 beta on our devices without finding any changes to the interface. And Google still hasn’t fixed several serious bugs found in the system, such as failures in message notifications, voice notes without WhatsApp audio, or Connection issues with Samsung Galaxy.
Not able to sign up for the Android Auto beta and still want to try the 12.6 beta? There is a way:
- Access this APK Mirror page with your mobile phone.
- Download Android Auto 12.6 beta. Available for Android 8 and above phones.
- Install the downloaded APK, your mobile phone will ask you if you want the update. Accept.
- APK is completely safe and signed by Google, otherwise you will not be able to update the app.
Like all beta versions, Android Auto 12.6 may not work properly and is still under development. Install only if you want to take the risk: A sufficiently stable and secure version as far as we have tested.
