OpenAI’s ChatGPT app seems to be a success. According to Appfigures, OpenAI reached its record of two million paying subscribers last month.
According to figures from Appfigures, OpenAI’s ChatGPT app just had its best month, with net revenue of $28 million in July, which equates to about two million paying subscribers. GPT-4o’s new voting mode is expected to boost those numbers even further. Last summer, the ChatGPT app became generally available to Android users. At the end of June, the company also announced the launch of the app for Apple macOS.
Record
28 million US dollars in one month, that’s about two million paying subscribers. These revenues are net amounts, meaning they do not include Apple and Google’s costs. The majority of these revenues come primarily from the App Store, which accounted for 83 percent of revenue.

ChatGPT’s overall revenue growth increased at a comfortable pace throughout the year. With the launch of GPT-4o in May, this accelerated with month-on-month growth increasing to 40 percent. However, the GPT-4o model is free, although not in the app version. This was partly the reason for the increase in subscriber numbers.
Voice mode
ChatGPT-4o has new voice features that are still being tested. This will allow users to have realistic interactions and the model could even feel emotions. The company would launch this voting mode in June but says it needs more time to make improvements. Only a small group of ChatGPT Plus users already have access. It is expected that the launch of this voting mode can significantly increase the number of subscribers.
